FAQ:
1. Is it normal to sit hard/soft?
• Reason: The hardness of the silicone foam board is determined by the density (usually 30-50D), and different needs can be adapted to different hardness.
• Answer: Normal phenomenon. If you want to pursue support, you can choose 40-50D high-density model; if you prefer softness, you can choose 30-35D low-density model, or match it with down and sponge cushions to adjust the comfort.
2. If there is a dent after use, can it be restored?
• Reason: Short-term mild depressions are mostly "temporary deformation"; long-term deep depressions may be due to insufficient density or load-bearing beyond the rated range.
• Answer: Mild depression can be restored by sun exposure (1-2 hours/week, avoid exposure) or patting; if the depression exceeds 2cm and cannot rebound, it is recommended to replace high-density (≥45D) products to avoid single-point long-term heavy pressure (such as sharp objects, centralised load-bearing) on a daily basis.
3. The surface is prone to dust/sucking hair. How to clean it?
• Reason: The surface of silicone foam has slight static electricity, which is easy to adsorb hair and dust; if the surface is covered with fabric, the fibre will also aggravate the staining.
• Answer: Use a sticky roller or a vacuum cleaner (brush suction head) to clean it on a daily basis; wipe the stains with a wet cloth dipped in neutral detergent (such as laundry detergent) and dry it. Avoid using alcohol and strong acid and alkali detergents (which will corrode the surface).
4. Is it sultry to use in summer?
• Reason: Ordinary silicone foam is moderately breathable. If it is wrapped in a sealed fabric, it is easy to cause air not to circulate.
• Answer: Choose a silicone foam plate with a "breathing hole" design (pore diameter 2-3mm), or match it with linen, mesh and other breathable fabric jackets; in summer, it can be used regularly to promote air circulation.
5. Is it harmful to have a strange smell?
• Reason: The odour of the new board is mostly caused by trace volatile substances left in the production process; inferior products may produce irritating odours due to substandard raw materials (such as mixed with recycled materials).
• Answer: The odour of high-quality products can be eliminated by ventilation and drying (3-5 days), and it complies with GB 18587-2017 "Limit of Formaldehyde Release in Interior Decoration Materials, Artificial Boards and Their Products"; if the odour lasts for more than 1 week or is accompanied by a pungent feeling, it may be a poor-quality product, and it is recommended to stop using it.
6. It doesn't fit tightly with the fabric and it's easy to slip?
• Reason: The surface of the silicone foam is smooth, and the friction between it and the fabric is insufficient; the cushion size does not match the sofa frame, which will also lead to displacement.
• Answer: Spread a layer of anti-slip cloth (such as silicone anti-slip mat) between the foam board and the fabric/sofa frame; when customising, make sure that the error between the size of the foam board and the sofa seat does not exceed 1cm, or choose the style with "velcro" design on the edge.
7. Does it turn yellow after long-term use, which affects the aesthetics?
• Cause: Ultraviolet irradiation, oxidation reaction or contact with sweat (containing salt) will cause silicone to slowly age and turn yellow.
• Answer: Normal ageing does not affect the performance of use. For prevention, you can choose to add "antioxidant" and "anti-UV agent" to the yellow-resistant variant; avoid the sofa directly to the sun in daily life, and it can be used with curtains to block ultraviolet rays.
8. Can you cut and adjust the size?
• Reason: The size of the finished product may not match the personalised sofa (such as special shape, customised model) and need to be second processed.
• Answer: It can be cropped. After marking the size with a tape measure, cut it along a straight line with a sharp knife (or electric knife). After cutting, sand the rough edge with sandpaper; Note: The high-density type has a high hardness, and it is recommended to cut slowly several times to avoid cracking.
9. Will it mould after moisture?
• Reason: Silicone foam itself is waterproof, but if it is in a humid environment for a long time (such as the rainy season in the south), the surface or gaps are prone to mould (especially when combined with non-breathable fabrics).
• Answer: Silicone foam does not absorb water, and mould is mostly caused by moisture attached to the surface. Ventilate regularly, wipe it with a dry cloth and dry it after moisture; in humid areas, it is recommended to choose the "antibacterial and mould-proof" model (add silver ion antibacterial agent), or spread moisture-proof paper under the cushion.
10. How long is the service life and when should it be replaced?
• Reason: The service life is generally 3-5 years, which is affected by density, frequency of use and maintenance methods.
• Answer: It is recommended to replace in the following cases: 1 The depression cannot be restored and the depth exceeds 2cm; 2 The surface is cracked and the slag falls off; 3 The odour continues to be eliminated; 4 The elasticity is significantly reduced, and the support becomes worse. Regularly turning over and avoiding heavy pressure can extend the service life.
